PM HARRIS CONGRATULATES VENEZUELA ON ITS INDEPENDENCE; PLEDGES ST. KITTS AND NEVIS’ SOLIDARITY

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, July 9, 2018 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – The Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis has reaffirmed its strong and longstanding bonds of friendship with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

That was the key message, which Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris focused on while offering words of congratulations to the Government and people of Venezuela on the occasion of that country’s 207th anniversary of its declaration of Independence.

In a congratulatory letter to President of Venezuela, His Excellency Nicolas Maduro Moros, Prime Minister Harris wrote:

“The date of July 5, 1811, must forever bring a sense of pride to the Venezuelan people, as it was the day that Venezuela not only officially severed the colonial ties with the Spanish Monarchy, but became the first Spanish colony in the Americas to receive absolute independence from Spain, setting a great example for other nations across the region.

Venezuela has remained a very close and loyal friend to the Government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis. This was again reflected in the recent visit by Venezuela’s Minister of People Power of Foreign Affairs, Jorge Alberto Arreaza, who further pledged Venezuela’s commitment to not only strengthen cooperation with us, but with the wider region. Your government’s contribution to our housing agenda is therefore worthy of note. You can count on our solidarity and support.

It is my firm belief that the current political and economical challenges confronting our countries and the Americas commit us to working together to develop our economies, improve the lives of our people, while at the same time deepen our regional integration efforts to ensure the wellbeing and security of our nations.”

While further congratulating the Government and people of Venezuela on this significant milestone, Prime Minister Harris noted, “May the celebrations of this Independence propel your country in the direction of continued prosperity, success and peace.”
