SANDY POINT PRIMARY SCHOOL EMERGED WINNERS OF 2018 CO-OPERATIVES QUIZ

Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 08, 2018 (SKNIS): Following an exciting four-round challenge of the Second Annual Primary School Quiz Competition organized by the Ministries of Co-operatives and Education along with the National Co-operative League Ltd, the Sandy Point Primary School was announced as first place winner.

The Wednesday, November 07 competition saw schools such as the Sandy Point Primary, Cayon Primary, Joshua Obadiah Primary, Dieppe Bay Primary, Beach Allen Primary and Tucker Clarke Primary vying for the number one spot.

Second place was awarded to the Cayon Primary and third place to the Joshua Obadiah Primary.

Minister of Co-operatives, the Honourable Eugene Hamilton, congratulated the students on a successful quiz and commended them for their wealth of knowledge on co-operatives.

“Today was not an education for you, it was an education for me because the way you answered those questions, I would have done much worse so I want to congratulate you. I want you to continue to learn, educate yourself and do not allow those who will distract you to take you on a path which leads to destruction,” he stated.

The Minister added that the parents and teachers should encourage the children to study and engage in testing themselves individually as well as against their fellow students in order to foster healthy competition and aid in the retention of information.

He thanked the Department of Co-operatives for its efforts in dedicating time to organizing the quiz and getting the Ministry of Education to come onboard.

“I want to congratulate the Department of Co-operatives for dreaming of this and for engaging with the Ministry of Education to bring this programme to the students and to the rest of the nation. Congratulations to all of you who made this possible today,” he said.

The National Co-operatives League is the representative body of all the Credit Unions and other Co-operatives within the Federation. It was established in the early 1980s with the mission to coordinate, develop and provide advocacy and representation for the credit union and cooperative sectors
